The Aven Grotte Forestière

If you are staying at a holiday home of Le Moulin de Lande and are looking for a day trip, why not visit one of the beautiful caves that the Ardèche is well-known for? Or perhaps even two… The Aven Grotte Forestière is just a short distance from the Aven d’Orgnac, so you could envisage visiting the two caves on one day. You will experience two vastly different caves. From Vallon Pont d’Arc drive south along the D579 and head towards Labastide-de-Virac along the D217. Take a turn to the right (west) halfway between the latter village and Orgnac-l’Aven to arrive at the cave.

Contrary to all the other caves opened to the public, you will not get a guided tour. Instead, you will be equipped with powerful torches and you get to explore the cave yourselves at your own leisure. If you are visiting with kids, they will love to feel like a true cave explorer! It is a relatively small aven, so take your time to explore the many stalactites, stalagmites, curtains and other formations. As you are relatively close to the surface, you will encounter some areas where tree roots are hanging from the ceiling. When you exit, you can return the torches and enjoy the picnic area and playground outside.
